It’s often a slow process getting a road race to become a big fundraiser in any community. But Erin’s Run in April proved to be a huge success in its very first year. The success of the event showed the love for a former Bangor High alum, Erin Whoolley who passed away three years ago at age 26.Proceeds from Erin’s Run were presented to Spruce Run and the UMaine swimming and diving team Thursday.Erin was a member of the Bangor High School swim team and the UMaine swim team. Both Spruce Run and the UMaine swim team received $7,500.Ben Sprague organized the race and was a friend of Erin’s, ”this was a community event, everyone really came together and we raised 15,000… more than we initially expected it’s really just because people remembered Erin, people loved Erin, and people wanted to celebrate her life and remember her legacy,” Sprague said.Sprague says he is excited to announce they will hold another race in Erin’s memory.
