Congressman Mike Michaud is exploring whether or not to run for governor in 2014. The website Michaud2014 was put up Thursday morning. ” During the last few months I’ve been deeply honored by the countless Mainers across the state, democrats, republicans, and independents alike, who have asked me to consider a run for governor. I’ve listened and I heard their frustrations and concerns about the lack of real leadership in our state. That’s why today I’m forming an exploratory committee to gauge the depth of support for a possible campaign to be your next governor,” said Michaud in a video statement on the webpage. Michaud goes on to say he believes Maine needs a governor who will restore stability in Augusta, expand access to affordable healthcare and quality education.Michaud also added a new Twitter handle Thursday, @michaud2014. Former Governor John Baldacci tells TV 5 he supports Michaud in the run for governor. Baldacci had previously said he was considering a run, but tells TV 5 he will not run in 2014. Independent Elliot Cutler says he plans to run for governor in 2014. Governor Paul LePage has set up a re-election committee.
