Old Orchard Beach residents have voted six of seven town councilors out of office after months of turmoil following the firing of the town manager. Voters on Tuesday ousted Councilors Sharri MacDonald, Laura Bolduc, Linda Mailhot, Dana Furtado, Michael Coleman and Robin Dayton. Only Councilor Bob Quinn survived the recall effort. The Portland Press Herald, reports that voters also chose six new councilors. The tension began in December when MacDonald asked Town Manager Mark Pearson to resign. Pearson was fired in March in a 4-3 vote, with those voting for his ouster saying they were unhappy with his job performance. Pearson sued the town, saying he was fired without cause. The controversy has strained friendships and some say cast the town in a poor light.
