Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting by a police officer that happened in Hampden Sunday night.Police were called to a home on Main Road South around 9 p.m.The initial report was for a potentially suicidal man.When officers arrived, they were told there might be someone else in trouble.As police entered the home, a man inside allegedly pointed a gun at one of the officers. That officer fired his weapon, fatally wounding the man.(Joe Rogers/Hampden Dir. Of Public Safety) “We will do our own investigation to make sure the officer acted properly. That will be independent of the Attorney General’s investigation.”The name of the officer as well as the name of the man fatally shot were not released.Based on protocol, the Hampden police officer will be on paid administrative leave during the investigation.Penobscot County Sheriffs as well as State Police were also on the scene.
