Crews were called out to a fire in Aurora Sunday night and until help could arrive their focus was on keeping the flames from spreading to other buildings nearby. The call for help came in just before 10 p.m.When fire fighters from Aurora arrived on Great Pond Road, the home was engulfed in flames. Two nearby buildings were close and in danger of catching fire, so crews went into defensive mode.”Until Mariaville, Osborne and Waltham got here, we really, all we could do is just keep the two buildings back here from burning,” says Aurora Fire Chief Bill Cook. “And we finally knocked down the fire when the rest of the department came and we got some heavy duty water on them.”We’re told one woman lived there, but she was not home at the time. She lost several cats as well as a bird in the fire.Fire Chief Cook says a number of propane tanks were also burning when they arrived.Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s office say there’s too much damage to determine what started the fire.
