WABI TV5/CW is happy to announce plans to air regular season local high school football beginning in September. “A recent change in circumstances opened up our schedule for new local programming opportunities,” said WABI TV5 General Manager Mike Young. “We have a long tradition of local sports, and regular season high school football makes a lot of sense, as it meshes well with our coverage of the state championships in November.” According to WABI TV5 Program Director Steve Hiltz, the schedule will be split over the station’s two channels – WABI, affiliated with CBS, and WABI DT2, Eastern and Central Maine’s CW affiliate. The games will all be streamed live on the station’s website, www.wabi.tv.“We are streaming the games online for the benefit of those fans that now live outside the area, and for anyone who may want to follow on-air coverage on their mobile devices locally – or even while they are at the game,” Hiltz said. “We’ve come up with a tentative schedule that includes all four of the new high school football classes, and that serves communities throughout our coverage area.”Here is the tentative regular season schedule on WABI TV5 and WABI DT2.Friday, Sep. 20, 7:00pm: Deering @ Bangor (Class A)Friday, Sep. 27, 7:00pm: Stearns @ Bucksport (Class D) Saturday, Oct. 5, 7:00pm: MCI @ John Bapst (Class D)Friday, Oct. 11, 7:00pm: Skowhegan @ Brewer (Class B) Friday, Oct. 18, 7:00pm: Waterville @ MDI (Class C) Friday, Oct. 25, 7:00pm: Brewer @ Hampden (Class B) Specific station assignments are to be determined.
