Maine has 42 new police officers. The men and women graduated Friday from the Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro. The officers have completed 18 weeks of training and studying. ” The beauty of our program is that every law enforcement officer is trained the exact same way. They have the same entrance requirements, same training requirements, and same exit requirements,” said John Rogers, director of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. ” It feels great. You know you have a huge responsibility out on the streets to keep the people safe, helping people out and go home at the end of the day knowing you made a difference helping someone out,” added Jerod Verrill, who just graduated the academy. Many of the new officers will begin patrolling on Memorial Day Weekend.
