WABI Employee Walks Against Suicide

A bill aiming to prevent youth suicide in Maine became law following a ceremonial signing Tuesday. Public schools will now have to educate all staff on how to spot the signs. Advocates locally are hailing the legislation but say more needs to be done. Here at TV 5, Angel Matson, our assignment editor, is preparing to do her part. She is travelling to Washington, D.C. for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s “Out of the Darkness” Overnight Walk. The 16 mile walk on June 1st will help raise funds and awareness for an issue that she hopes to bring to light. She’s trying to raise $1,000 for the cause. If you would like to help Angel, or donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, head to theovernight.donordrive.org and search from Angel Matson.
