It’s spring cleaning time at UMaine. Students and staffers are preparing for their annual Clean Sweep Sale. The first one was in 2007.They’re collecting items students left behind after leaving campus for the summer. The items are sold to benefit the Bodwell Center at UMaine, which will help stock the shelves of the food pantry and buy supplies for UMaine Service projects. “It’s been a wonderful way for our students to be able to get rid of the things that they can’t take with them and to be able to use for a great purpose for the campus,” said Lisa Morin, Coordinator of Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism. “I mean I just like the whole philosophy instead of (students’ items) going in the dump, we get to take it, gather it up and then raise money and then donate it. It’s all reduce, reuse, recycle, you know, it’s a lot of fun and it gives me a nice warm feeling inside,” said Robbie Bickford, a UMaine student who helps organize the sale. The clean sweep will take place in York Commons on Square Road on the UMaine campus Friday from 11am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 2pm.For more info visit the umaine.edu/volunteer or the “Barbara Higgins Bodwell Center” Facebook page. Items that do not get sold will be donated or sold in some other way to benefit local charities.
