The Maine Emergency Management Agency is prepared to assist those devastated by Monday’s tornado. They’re part of the National Emergency Management Assistance Compact. They’ve been called on in similar natural disaster situations where they and the National Guard have provided out of state support.”We will definitely be looking at the situation reports that are coming out of Oklahoma and trying to make some kind of assessment of what kind of help they will need and watching the official channel where they might lodge requests to see if there’s something that we can help with and then also on the humanitarian side. Non-profit organizations will be very active in a response like this,” says MEMA spokesperson Lynette Miller. Over the next few days, MEMA will wait for any request that comes from agencies within Oklahoma and then act accordingly. We will continue to follow their response.
