As part of Armed Force Services day, lawyers in the Bangor Area gave free legal advice to veterans on Saturday. Volunteer attorneys offered support for help veterans apply for VA benefits.Maine has the third largest veteran population per capita in the nation. Many vets have questions when it comes to pensions, medical benefits, or education.Lawyers said the process of filing a claim is a complicated one. Daniel Dubé, Esq. with AmeriCorps VISTA and Pine Tree Legal said, “A claim that is not properly organized will take longer for the VA to process and the VA may deny a claim that may otherwise be worthy.”The event was put on by Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project with support from Pine Tree Legal Assistance.
