Billion Dollar Budget For Maine’s Highways

State Transportation Commissioner David Bernhardt is asking lawmakers to approve a 1.1 billion dollar budget for Maine’s highways. He says the proposal includes the elimination of nearly 60 jobs from the department, and would cap state costs for employee’s health insurance and freeze merit and longevity pay.The Highway Fund is separate from the state’s 6.3 billion dollar general budget, which has been submitted by Governor LePage.
