It was a celebration of trains big and small in Bangor on Saturday.Operation lifesaver –a railroad safety group– held an exhibit at the Airport Mall to commemorate national train day.Train enthusiasts could watch two operating trains and read information about the Downeast Scenic and the Belfast & Moosehead railroad. The group also promoted railroad safety.State Coordinator for Maine: Operation Livesaver, Fred Hirsch, said, “Watching the kids just stare in amazement and shake their arms. They’re just amazed. I mean I don’t know too many kids who don’t like trains. It’s just a simple fun day of excitement for kids and adults because adults play with trains too.”>{:00}Last year over 150 people stopped by the event and organizers were expected the same turnout this year.Other events were held in Brunswick and Portland and many other cities across the nation.
