A former Maine governor with ties to the county was buried Monday in Fort Fairfield.Family and friends gathered at Riverside Cemetery to remember John Reed, who passed away last October.Reed was buried in a service of committal with Masonic Burial Rites and full military honors.Reed was born and raised in the county. He was governor of Maine from 1959 to 1967, and also served as US ambassador to Sri Lanka.Those in attendance say in his lifetime he did a great deal of service to the county, this state, and our country.”He just was a very likeable person,â€ said Cheryl Reed, Johnâ€™s daughter. â€œHe was a great speaker, a great leader. He just seemed to have it all. And he related to people one on one and he enjoyed meeting people. He was a very good politician.”Reed also served in the Navy during World War II.
