The Bangor Farmers’ Market is open for business. The 2013 season kicked off this afternoon.Local farmers brought their goods to Abbott Square across from the library.Organizers say that it’s important for them be able to reach all parts of the community. That’s why they are matching the first $20 for those in the Supplement Nutrition Assitance program called SNAP.”Local food really represents the true cost of food. We’re not getting subsidies from the government to produce this, so our prices tend to be a little higher and so by offering a benefit or a match for snap customers allows us provide our food slightly more affordable to that community,” said Clayton Carter, the market director. The farmers’ market will be held every Sunday, from 11 to 2, until Thanksgiving. If you’d like more info, log onto bangorfarmersmarket.org.
