Maine Mill Workers Meet in Bangor

Mill workers from across the pine tree state came together in Bangor on Friday.The United Steelworkers and Maine Labor Council held their first meeting of the year. The unions represent about 3,700 workers in Maine.Leaders and employees discuss issues which could impact jobs in the state.Healthcare, education, and social security benefits were discussed. Also, possible a new mill Canada proved to be a hot topic.President of the Maine Labor Council, Patrick Carleton, said, “Right now, our big push is ‘Keep it made in America.’ We’re trying to make sure that we can invest in jobs in America and invest in companies that want to come to America from overseas and create more jobs in manufacturing.”Officials for the Maine Labor Council said they will be back in the area in the fall for a common interest meeting.
