An award-winning musician performed for students Friday in Greenbush. Gareth Laffely plays the Native American flute. He wrote his first song when he was 5 and he fell in love with the flute after picking one up for setting out on a family trip. He lives in Tennessee but his mom lives in Maine. On Friday, he shared his talent with kids at the Helen Dunn School. “I love to come into the schools and educate the kids and tell them what kind of music I do and also tell about the history of the Native American flute. It’s a dying instrument, not many people know about it and I’d like to bring it back,” said Laffely. Laffely has no Native American heritage, he says he just loves the spirit of the instrument. He’s playing a few more places this weekend in Maine, you can learn more, by clicking here.
