This Saturday runners will race to remember Erin Woolley.A Bangor native, Erin passed away from cancer in 2010.She graduated Bangor High School in 2002 and later went to UMaine and was on the swimming and diving teams. She had hoped to work as an advocate for women.Money raised from the race will go to Spruce Run, a domestic violence awareness group where Erin had worked, and it will also help fund a scholarship at UMaine in Erin’s honor.”This is really to celebrate Erin’s life. It’s a sad situation in some ways, but really, we’re trying to be positive and continue the work that she was doing and celebrate the person that she was. She was incredible. A lot of people participating knew Erin and remember her, and others maybe didn’t, but hopefully they’ll be able to learn about her spirit and her beliefs and all the work she was doing through the event,” said race director Ben Sprague. The 5K will take place along the Bangor Waterfront at 10AM on Saturday. To register for the race or to donate to the event, visit erinsrun.org.
