The 3-year-old Maine girl severely injured in an attack by a Rottweiler last week is expected to remain in a Boston hospital for a month. James Baum owns the dog and shares a Farmingdale home with the child’s grandmother and mother. The 52-year-old Baum is dating the little girl’s grandmother. Baum tells the Kennebec Journal, the girl is on a ventilator and under sedation but the “outlook is good.” The 5-year-old Rottweiler was shot and killed by police. Baum says the dog had never attacked anyone before. He says the girl and her grandmother were giving the dog a treat when it broke its choke collar and attacked. The girl’s grandmother covered her to protect her from the dog, which ripped off part if the girl’s scalp.
