Waterville Chinese Restaurant Manager Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges

The manager of a Chinese restaurant in Waterville is waiting to be sentenced after pleading guilty to federal charges of harboring illegal aliens to work at the restaurant. 30-year-old Mei Juan Zhang of Fairfield is also accused of money laundering and filing false federal tax returns. She’s the manager of Super China Buffet on Kennedy Memorial Drive. It’s one of several Chinese resturants in Maine owned by the Zhang family, which have been under investigation for illegal employee practices and skimming millions of dollars from the businesses.Zhang faces up to 20 years in prison and total fine of up to $1 million. She’s the second person to be charged in connection with the case, along with the manager of the Twin Super Buffet in Brewer.
