One in Five Mainers have been victim of sexual violence. That’s according to the director of the sexual assault crisis and support center in Waterville. The center held their 2nd annual one in five 5k Sunday morning.Over 200 runners took park to raise money for the center.A handful of runners wore teal t-shirts to represent victims of sexual assault.The Executive Director of the Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center, Donna Strickler, said this year’s theme, part of sexual assault awareness month, is heroes and healing. Strickler said, “To me, all these people are heroes. They have made the effort to come out, both to have fun running, but that they know every dollar that they have raised today goes right into the direct services for people who have been victims of sexual violence.”Teams raised over $8,000 for the cause. That money will help victims in Kennebec and Somerset counties.
