Lincolnville Voters Could Change Charter and Do Away with Police

Catherine Pegram

Folks in Lincolnville will be voting on a charter change that could do away with the town’s police chief. A citizen’s petition was approved Tuesday for the June ballot. The town administrator tells us the charter amendment would remove the requirement for the town to have a police chief or police department. For now the budget committee is following the recommendations of the town vote last year to keep the position. The charter change will be voted on June 11th. If it’s approved, voters could choose to cut the police chief job when they vote on the budget at town meeting June 15th.
