A 3-year-old girl in Farmingdale is being treated for head injuries at a hospital in Boston after she was attacked by a family dog. Police got a call to Littlefield Lane Thursday morning where 51-year-old Pam Lapointe said her granddaughter had been mauled by a Rottweiler. The Kennebec County Sheriff says the dog belongs to the grandmother’s boyfriend.Lapointe was babysitting her granddaughter, who apparently made her way to a barn where the dog was chained up. The dog bit the girl several times before Lapointe dove in front of her and stopped the attack.Authorities say she probably saved the little girl’s life. A Gardiner police officer shot and killed the dog. It was taken to a local vet to be tested for rabies.Lapointe was not injured. Her granddaughter was taken to Maine Medical Center, then flown to Shriners Hospital in Boston where she’s expected to have several surgeries on her head.
