Bangor Savings Bank Foundation Awards $100k to Non-Profits

Eight non-profit organizations will get to split $40,000 as part of a campaign by a local bank to give back to the community. The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation is handing out the money for its Community Matters More program. Each year the program gives away $100,000 to the groups that get the most votes.Sixty organizations will receive $1,000 each.This year the $5,000 prizes go to:Visiting Nurses of Aroostook/Hospice of AroostookShaw House in BangorWashington County Food & Fuel AllianceHancock County Habitat for HumanityChildren’s Discovery MuseumFamily Violence Project of Somerset CountyMaine Cancer FoundationSaco River Jazz EnsembleOrganizers say more than 80,000 people voted in this year’s campaign. The 60 $1,000 grant winners include the 40 nonprofit organizations listed on the ballot, and the 20 organizations that earned the most write-in votes in each of the eight regions.
