A search committee has been put together to find the new head coach of the University of Maine hockey team. The seven members will start the process immediately. They will give the athletic director a list of candidates within the next two months. The chair of the committee is Dr. George Jacobson, who is the former NCAA faculty athletic representative for the university. The other members are: Cherie Damon, president and long-time member of Friends of Maine Hockey. Dr. Nic Erhardt, faculty liason to the men’s hockey team and member of the Athletic Advisory Board. Peter Metcalf, a UMaine alumnus and former professional hockey player. He was a defenseman when the Black Bears went to the 1999 National Championship. Dr. Richard Powell, director of the Peter Madigan i81 Congressional Internship Program. Jon Sorenson, co-chair of Black Bears of Boston , founder of the Boston Executive Club of the University of Maine. Janine Tremble, marketing specialist with Maine Savings and president elect of the Black Bear Board of Advisors. Robert Corkum was named interim head coach last week, the day after Tim Whitehead was fired from the job.
