Erosion threatening graves at a Skowhegan cemetery has become a concern for the town. The town’s code enforcement officer, Randall Gray, says that someone alerted them a few days ago to the problem in North Cemetery.Engineers have been called in to fix the land. The cemetery has been around since the 1800′s.Gray says that the town owns the land and is making the erosion problem a priority.”We have been in contact with some of the family members, and they are all veterans in that cemetery, so the family has offered to do relocation to a veterans cemetery if needed. Our goal is to absolutely leave them right where they are, and make them safe,” said Gray.Gray says the town does have funds to cover the fix.He thinks that ground water may have been eating away at the bottom soil.
