People who live in a retirement community in Orono are trying to help end hunger. Dirigo Pines residents collected food for a month. Tuesday, they donated that food to the Eastern Area Agency on Aging. It will help local seniors get food they otherwise might go without. ” Our residents know that they’re very fortunate, but they’re mindful of the greater world around them and the need that still exists, so they’re always happy to pitch in,” said Juanita Taylor, activities director at Dirigo Pines. ” The only way in the long run that these programs to end hunger are going to work is community and people helping each other and taking care of each other in the community,” added Rob Crone, with the Eastern Area Agency on Aging. Dirigo Pines takes part in three to four programs like this each year.
