Bangor City Council Throws Support Behind Methadone Bill

Bangor city councilors voted Monday night to back a bill that would offer more places for methadone treatment in Maine. The law would allow federally qualified health centers to provide treatment, too. There are more than 30 of those, compared to the state’s nine methadone clinics. Bangor is home to three clinics. The councilors say more treatment options would cut down on long commutes for some patients and save the state about $7 million in travel reimbursements. The bill is currently moving through the legislature.
