Bail Set at $50K for Augusta Arson Suspect, Ordered to Have Psych Exam 

A man accused of burning down an apartment building in Augusta has been ordered to undergo a psychological exam. He’s also being held on $50,000 bail. 57-year-old Stephen Cormier is charged with arson. He made his first court appearance Friday after police arrested him Thursday at a homeless shelter in Waterville. State fire investigators say Cormier set fire to a living room couch in his first-floor apartment on northern avenue last month.The apartment building was destroyed.The exam will determine whether Cormier’s competent to stand trial. He’s due back in court next month.
