Democrats and Republicans are taking jabs at each other in light of a TV ad campaign urging lawmakers to pay off the state’s $484 million debt to Maine’s hospitals. The conservative political group Maine People Before Politics paid for the ad. It starts with an attack against former Democratic Governor John Baldacci, saying: “Walking out, Baldacci’s team left hundreds of millions of dollars of welfare debt through unpaid hospital bills, causing layoffs, threatening care for seniors and families. With a successful business background, Governor LePage has a plan to pay the hospitals in full.”The governor’s been pressuring Democrats almost daily to pass his proposal to pay back hospitals. The Democratic House Speaker says the ad undermines the work in the legislature to deal with the debt and says the governor is playing politics. Republican leaders say it’s embarrassing that Democrats would just drop everything to attack a non-profit group. To see the full ad, click here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AyNjHLEc_Y
