A new poll shows that if Independent Eliot Cutler were to run for governor as a Democrat next year, he’d lead the race against Republican Governor Paul LePage by almost eight percentage points. The Pan Atlantic SMS Group survey also shows LePage a winner in any other three-way race where Cutler remains an Independent. If former Democratic Governor John Baldacci jumps in the race, both LePage and Cutler rank higher.Representative Mike Michaud, also a Democrat, garners slightly more support than Baldacci.Baldacci, Michaud and Democratic Representative Chellie Pingree have confirmed they’re considering a run for governor. Democrats Steve Woods and David Slagger, along with LePage and Cutler, have filed campaign documents with the Maine Ethics Commission.Race for Governor:Cutler – D – 42.2%LePage – R – 34.5%Unsure – 13.4%LePage – R – 36.5%Cutler – I – 27%Baldacci – D – 21.1%LePage – R – 33.5%Cutler – I – 25.6%Michaud – D – 22.8%Margin of error + or – 4.9%
