The Bangor Government Operations Committee unanimously adopted a resolve supporting increased access to methadone treatment on Monday night. The resolve indicates the city council’s support for a statehouse bill sponsored by Lawrence Lockman of Amherst. If passed it would allow the Department of Health and Human Services to license medical and healthcare facilities as treatment clinics.Right now there are only 9 licensed distribution centers in the state, 3 of them in Bangor, serving up to 1,500 patients each. City Councilors say easier access will help prevent relapse and saves money on transportation. The resolve will be delivered to Bangor’s legislative delegation before going to the house floor for a vote.
