Searsport Planning Board Rules on Portion of Tank Proposal

The Searsport Planning Board made another significant ruling Thursday, in the debate over whether or not they should allow a 22-million gallon propane tank at Mack Point. In their second night of deliberation, a decision was reached that the proposal did not meet safety requirements within the town’s land use ordinances. The so called “blast zone”, that could be effected in the event of a rupture in the tank, was the reason for the board’s decision. They also ruled that the applicant would be violating noise level restrictions when DCP Midstream trucks pass through residential areas. The board meets again to discuss the site plan review next Wednesday and Thursday.
