State lawmakers are considering local input on Governor LePage’s proposed budget. on Monday, the legislature’s budget and appropriations committee was in Brewer for public testimony on the $6.3 billion spending plan.About 200 people came to Jeff’s Catering Center for the first forum held outside of the state capitol on the issue.Lawmakers say these proposed budget cuts are broad and far reaching so they came to hear the concerns of Maine residents that otherwise may not have the opportunity to speak. Concerned residents from all over the state spoke out against the 2-year suspension of revenue sharing between the state and municipalities, as well as the elimination of tax reimbursement and exemption programs for businesses, property tax refunds, and the transfer of excise tax revenue.Legislators say there is some common ground to build on, but they need to come to an agreement quickly.
