Convicted Murderer Found Not Guilty in Death of Fellow Inmate
A Maine prison inmate serving 45-years for murder has been found not guilty of attempted murder. Franklin Higgins, 50, was accused of trying to kill fellow inmate, Lloyd Millett. Higgins had been indicted for murder, but prosecutors said an autopsy showed there may have been other contributing causes, so the charges were revised. According to court paperwork, Higgins hit Millett in the head with a pipe clamp and that was a substantial step toward committing murder. The prosecution claimed the injuries sustained during the assault led to Millett’s death. The defense argued Millett threatened violence to extort money from Higgins. Higgins is in prison for killing his girlfriend in Kenduskeag in 1999.
