Islamic Center Holds an Open House 

The Islamic Center of Maine opened its doors to the Orono community on Saturday.The center held an open house in honor of Islam Awareness weekend. Members from UMaine’s Honors College also helped participate.The big event centered around a therapist from California who spoke about the psychology of a terrorist and why some people might associate that with Islam. Vice President of the UM Muslim Association, Abeul Raheem Sabyi said “It’s a topic that’s provocative that gets away from the cliché of Islam and an understanding of what can be talked about and how diversity plays a role in this center for all people to understand.Members said they hope events like these allow more discussions with the local community.
