Maine Forest Rangers Search for Sap Thieves 

Forest rangers are on the lookout for sap thieves.Ranger Jeff Currier says the forest service has received a dozen complaints from landowners finding taps in their maple trees with buckets underneath to collect sap.He says the number of complaints is up this year.Culprits could be charged with theft, malicious mischief and trespassing.In recent years, a gallon of Maine maple syrup has retailed for about $50.
