There were some tense moments at a Milford School Committee meeting Thursday. Parents packed the library of the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School in response to last week’s budget workshop, where a $150-thousand budget reduction was proposed.Superintendent Nancy Weed informed teachers that those cuts could impact their employment earlier in the day.Committee member Chris LeClair was upset that those teachers were informed before the board voted on areas to cut.One of those educators, music director Keri Whitney, presented samples of her children’s work as part of the committee’s “Spotlight on Learning”.”I feel like the arts are always the target and sports and those kinds of things, and I think the presentation I made tonight, it really showed kind of the heart and soul and that’s exactly what the arts are for kids,” said Whitney. Both Superintendent Weed and Committee Chair Gary Drinkwater chose not to be interviewed. The Milford School Committee will meet again for a budget workshop, next Thursday night, at 6 P.M.
