State Police say a Troy man shot himself Wednesday afternoon as he was about to be arrested on child sexual charges. According to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, detectives went to the man’s home to arrest him on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor. The man reportedly refused to open the door, so detectives called in the State Police Tactical Team. McCausland says the man shot himself with a 22 caliber rifle. No police officers were involved in the shooting. The man has been taken to a hospital. His name has not been released because his family is still being notified.
