Speak now or forever hold your peace. That was the message from Searsport’s “Thanks But No Tank” group. They’re opposed to the company DCP Midstream’s proposal to build a 22-million gallon propane tank at Mack Point, and called for anyone against the plan to speak out. On Monday, the planning board held the final public hearing on the issue at Searsport District High School. Proponents say the project will help create jobs in the area, as well as stimulate the local economy. The opposition calls the plan dangerous. Activists set up a one-eight size tower outside the school to put the tank’s size in perspective. The Searsport planning board now has 30 days to determine if DCP’s plan is in compliance with the town’s ordinances and can begin construction.
