Local Gaming Group Plays for a Cause

A local group of gamers are using their virtual skills for a good cause.The Maine Fighting Gamers’ Alliance hosted Gamestrong 2013 to help raise money for at-risk youth.Non profit organization Strong Mind-Strong Body teamed up with MFGA to host the event.Organizers said gaming for a cause will help send kids to summer camp.”It’s very expensive to run a program here, especially when you don’t charge the participants anything,” said Strong Mind Strong Body Program Director Roosevelt Boone. “We run events such as the Gamestrong tournament to offset those expenses that come about throughout the summer.MFGA is a strong supporter of the organization. “We run tournaments anyway, so why not do it for a good cause. It’s a great program,” said MFGA President Antonio Williams.Organizers say the event also helped bring the gaming community together.
