A man from Gardiner who admitted to playing a part in the murder of a couple in California was sentenced to two years in prison. But he won’t see any more time behind bars. 30-year-old Elijah McKay was sentenced Tuesday in a Lake County, California courtroom. He’d previously pleaded guilty to accessory to murder after the fact in connection with the deaths of 32-year-old Frank Maddox and 40-year-old Yvette Maddox of Augusta three years ago. Because of the time McKay had already spent in prison, the prosecutor in the case says McKay would not have to serve any more time. His accomplice, 32-year-old Robby Beasley, was sentenced last month to life in prison. Prosecutors say Beasley shot and killed the Maddoxes because he believed they stole pot from him.
