The Sebasticook Valley Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet and awards ceremony on Thursday night. The event was held at the Moosehead Trail Motor Lodge in Dexter. The night’s festivities included music from U-Maine’s premier a’capella group “The Maine Steiners”, a social hour, buffet dinner, as well as a silent auction. Each year the chamber recognizes business leaders in the community. Tonight they recognized Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union as Business of the Year. Organizers say the event is a great way to promote networking and cooperation between businesses in the area. Angel Quick, President of Skowhegan Savings Bank, says, “The more that we get together and network together to let everyone know what’s available out there to them, to their businesses, and promote local business. I think that’s why it’s so important.”Alva Wyman took home the Joyce Packard Community Spirit Award for his 50 years of service at Bud’s Shop n’ Save, as well as years of dedication to the chamber. He even planned tonight’s ceremony but had no idea he would be honored.
