The American Red Cross is hoping folks will share the love this Valentine’s Day by donating blood. The Bangor Blood Donation Center on Hammond Street has even found a heartfelt way to thank those who rolled up their sleeves. Everyone was given a rose, courtesy of Chapel Hill Floral. It’s part of the Valentine’s Day tradition. We’re told holidays and winter weather can drive donations down. Organizers of the event hope a little something extra can turn that around.Christine Bessey, with the American Red Cross, says, “We are in lots of need for blood donations. We are currently down a lot. About 1200 units. So this blood drive today and everyday underscores the need for blood.”The donor center closes at 6 p.m. Thursday night. If you don’t have a chance to stop by, you can make an appointment to donate by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. You can also visit www.redcrossblood.org.
