Winslow Man Pleads Not Guilty to Fatal Shooting

A man from Winslow accused of shooting and killing another man outside a bar in Waterville has pleaded not guilty.30-year-old Matthew Partridge was ordered held on $700,000 bail after his arraignment Wednesday in Augusta. Prosecutors say Partridge shot 26-year-old Justin Smith of China in the face with a handgun after a fight last month between two groups of men. It started inside “You Know Who’s Pub” and spilled outside.Partridge’s lawyer says the shooting was a case of self-defense after Smith punched Partridge in the face.Partridge faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
