Ladies and gentlemen, start your belt sanders…A sander race is scheduled for this weekend.It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Penobscot chapter of the United Bikers of Maine.They distribute the money raised to different charities.”It’s like drag racing,” says John Rogerson, Penobscot County Director of United Bikers. “You watch for the green light, pull the lever and off it goes. It is very fun. It’s just something to do in the winter when you get bored.”The next beltsander race is Saturday at the City Side restaurant in Brewer. Racing begins at 1:00.It’s five dollars to race, but free to watch.There will be door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.If you miss the race this weekend, there are four other dates coming up in February and March.
