For nearly a decade, a group of dedicated Mainers has made sure our men and women serving overseas have a proper send off and welcome home.On Friday, the “Maine troop greeters” hosted a fundraiser at Bangor’s Sunbury Village. The event featured live music from the “Little Big Band” and was hosted by local radio personality Mike Dow.Proceeds from the surf and turf dinner will help the greeters provide items for those brave men and women.Since 2003, more than one-million soldiers have benefitted from their generosity.”It is just heartwarming and you recognize the ones who get deployed 2 or 3 times. You recognize them when they keep coming and they recognize you,” said Cheryl Lare, the group’s community relations chair. Since 2003, the troop greeters have been present at nearly 7,000 incoming and outgoing military flights at Bangor international airport.
