Police: Man Wanted for Murder in NYC Might Be in Penobscot County

State Police tell TV5 Raymond Mayrant, 25, was possibly seen Thursday at Eddington Auto on Route 9. An employee at the store called police saying a man matching Mayrant’s description was the passenger in a grey or gold Toyota van. State Police Trooper Tucker Boonevie says the license plate number is 8702GA.A white woman with dark hair was driving the van. The Eddington Auto employee told police, the passenger was wearing dark sweatpants, sneakers, a baggy jacket or sweatshirt and had thousands of dollars of cash in his pockets. The man told the employee he had just moved to the area from New York, but would not give any other information. Someone reported seeing Mayrant in Brewer Thursday as well. Augusta police tell us Mayrant was seen at the Motel 6 in Augusta early Wednesday morning. At that time, he was believed to be in a stolen, 1998 black Nissan Altima with Maine license plate 3883TK. Mayrant is accused of killing his young daughter’s grandmother and trying to kill the child’s mother one week ago in New York City.Police believe Mayrant is heading to Canada.
