Updated 1 year ago

As of Tuesday, there have been 65 reported cases of the influenza virus across the state. That’s according to the Maine Center of Disease Control.Eastern Maine Medical Center said they’ve seen about six to 12 flu cases a day over the past week. The Director of infection prevention and control at EMMC, Donna Dunton said even if you’re normally healthy, you should get vaccinated. The Director adds this year’s flu virus is the worst she’s seen in years. “Even with the H1N1 back in 2009, when there was a lot of concern about that epidemic, those cases were fairly mild compared to what you’re seeing this year.”As a way to stop the spread of the virus, St. Joseph Hospital is requesting anyone with symptoms to refrain from visiting patients at the hospital. However, if you have flu-like systems yourself, officials say to call your doctor or you can seek medical treatment at a local hospital.
