Bangor Charges Residents in Attempt to Cut Down on Stormwater Pollutants

Officials in Bangor want residents to be informed about their new stormwater utility program.They’re trying to cut down on pollutants washing into the city’s water sources during storms. By doing so, they’ll be charging residents a $22 dollar fee for each three thousand square feet of non-absorbant surface space on their property, and an additional $11 dollars per thousand square feet beyond that.Letters are being sent to property owners, informing them about the city’s plan.An information session will was held Wednesday night at Bangor City Hall in the Council Chambers.It started at 5:30.If you didn’t make the meeting, there’s a twelve minute informational video about stormwater on the city’s website, www.bangormaine.gov, or call 992-4480 for more information.
